Initial Examination (Duration: 45 min)
Your initial visit gives us the opportunity to get to know each other and determine what you hope to accomplish with your smile. This first visit is complimentary and is designed to provide you with as much information about your orthodontic needs as possible. Dr. Leiker will review your medical history, listen to your orthodontic concerns, and do a thorough evaluation of your teeth, bite, oral tissues, and temporomandibular joints (TMJs). He will then give you his professional recommendations regarding your orthodontic care (what type of treatment, if any, is indicated; when to start; how long treatment should take; etc.). If Dr. Leiker recommends treatment at this time, we will discuss the estimated treatment time and fees and schedule time for diagnostic records (see below). If Dr. Leiker recommends waiting on orthodontic treatment, your child may be placed on a recall schedule for future examinations.
Call today to schedule your COMPLIMENTARY EXAM. We REWARD for referrals, so tell your friends and family about us! Our phone numbers and office locations can be found with the Contact Us link on the top of Home Page.
Diagnostic Records (Duration 45 min)
Diagnostic records consist of X-rays of the teeth and jaws, digital photos of the teeth and face, and plaster study models of the teeth with jaw relation registrations. This information will be imported into a computer and used to confirm Dr. Leiker's initial findings and develop a complete customized treatment plan. These records are essential in fully diagnosing orthodontic care as well as the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
Consultation / Placing the Braces (Duration: 90 min)
Dr. Leiker will have reviewed your diagnostic records and used the computer to develop the customized treatment plan or optional plans which he will discuss with you before placing the braces. Actually placing the braces usually takes about 60-90 minutes. Once the appliances are in place, a thorough explanation of how to care for the braces, expander, etc. will be provided before leaving our office.
Regular Appointments (Duration 15-20 min)
After the braces are placed, you will then be seen at regular intervals, 4 to 8 weeks apart, for regular adjustments, which take 15 to 20 minutes. Our regular office hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 to 5:00 and Friday 7:30 to 1:30.
We have worked extremely hard to create a schedule that is fair to everyone. A few of the office visits will inevitably conflict with work or school. In order to balance the need for regular appointments with the need to minimize missed school and work, we have designed our office schedule to accomplish the following:
- Most regular adjustment appointments can be scheduled at any time of day.
- Some longer appointments (placing or removing braces, repairing braces, taking diagnostic records, etc.) require more time and may have to be scheduled during school or work hours.
- We want to see each patient at the time of their scheduled appointment. Your time is valuable and it should not be wasted sitting in our reception room.
- We want to have enough time at each appointment to do the necessary adjustment, plan the next visit, discuss treatment progress and answer any questions.
If you have any broken braces or appliances, please let us know before your appointment so that we can ensure that there will be enough time allotted for any repairs!
Tardy Appointments
We appreciate your efforts to be on time for appointments. We strive to be on time also. If we are running behind, it is because we are giving every patient our best effort as we will do for you when your adjustment is being done.
We will make every effort to see late arrivals, but unfortunately, it may be necessary to reschedule the appointment to ensure that we do not make the other patients wait for their scheduled appointments.
Rescheduling Appointments
If you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, please give us 24 hours notice. This will allow another patient that appointment time slot. Cancel/reschedule only when necessary. It is difficult to reschedule last minute cancellations or missed appointments, especially after-school hours, since most appointments are made 4 to 8 weeks in advance. We do not want rescheduled appointments to prolong treatment.
